Gary M. Reeves
Gary Reeves is recognized for his accomplishments as an outstanding coach and administrator for Garland Independent School District. Reeves graduated from South Oak Cliff High School, where he was a three-year letterman in football and a two-year letterman in baseball. As a senior, he was first team all-district in football. At Kilgore College he was a two-year letterman in baseball and was named a junior college All-American. He then attended Texas Lutheran College and was a two-year letterman in both football and baseball. In 1965 he began his professional career as a teacher-coach at the newly opened Atwell Junior High School in Dallas, and moved to Carter High School when it opened the next year. He coached both football and baseball. Reeves served as head baseball coach at Garland High School from 1969 through 1972 and his Owl team won the district championship in 1972. He was selected as the District 8, 4-A Coach of the Year in 1972. In 1976 he was named Assistant Principal at the newly opened Lakeview Centennial High School and the next year became Principal at Kimberlin Elementary School. In 1979 he became the Principal at North Garland High School, and in 1984 he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent. In 1990 his administrative responsibilities were expanded to include the Athletics department. During his tenure as an administrator, Reeves oversaw the expansion of girl’s athletic facilities and coaching staffs, the renovation of the Williams Stadium press box, the improvement of all the high school weight rooms, and the televising of Garland I.S.D. athletic events on GRS-TV. Since 1990 he has served as the Title 9 Coordinator for the Garland I-S-D and is also the District Executive Committee Chairman of District 10, 5-A of the University Interscholastic League. Gary Reeves enjoys fishing, gardening, and hunting. He and his wife, Donna, have been married 46 years and have two children: Steve and his wife Shannon, and Dhana and her husband David Mouton. The Reeves have five grandchildren: Sydney and Morgan Mouton; and Phoebe, Hannah, and Noah Reeves.
