Gaines Baty has been selected for induction into the Garland Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments as a running back and linebacker at South Garland High School and as a defensive end at Texas Tech University. As a sophomore and junior football player, he was a starting linebacker. In 1968 as a senior at South Garland High School, he was honored as All-State honorable Mention, All-Metro Dallas honorable mention, and All-District, District 7, 4-A. He was also team co-captain twice and most valuable player for the Colonels, as well as the district most valuable offensive player. At Texas Tech Baty was the starting fullback and co-captain of the freshman football team. As a junior he was a starting defensive end, and as a senior he again was a starting defensive end. Baty was named to the All-Southwest Conference Team as a senior and was selected for the Tech All-Decade/Era team. Baty started 23 straight games for Tech and played in two post season bowl games. Since 1981, Gaines Baty has headed R. Gaines Baty Associates, Incorporated, which performs executive searches for medium and top tier companies. Gaines Baty and his wife, Keri, are parents of three children, Ryan, Robbie, and Jacqueline.
