Derrick Dockery

Born in Dallas County, Derrick is a 1999 Lakeview High School graduate with a very impressive football career. He was a tremendous athlete and well-respected among his classmates. As offensive tackle he was a two-time first-team All-District selection. After his senior season, he was tabbed a second-team Class 5A All-State selection by the Texas Sports Writers Association. He was also named an All-USA second-team offensive lineman by USA Today. He received numerous scholarship offers ultimately deciding to play for Mack Brown at the University of Texas.
Derrick played for the Longhorns from 1999-2002. He competed in every game as a freshman – including the Cotton Bowl Classic – played both guard spots and was on special teams. Derrick also played in every game in 2000, helping the Longhorns average 38.6 points per game that season. As a junior in 2001, Derrick started nine games at guard, as well as seeing action at tackle. During his senior season in 2002, Derrick started all 13 games, seven at right guard and six at right tackle He earned first-team All-Gig 12 honors, and was also named a consensus first-team All-American. Derrick was also recognized as a first-team selection by The Associated Press and the Football Writers Association of America. He received the longhorns, Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award at the conclusion of his senior season.
Selected in the NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, Derrick started a stellar NFL career in 2003. He got off to a great start as a rookie, becoming a starter for the Redskins by week four, and remaining a starter at left guard for the rest of the season. The 2004 season would see Derrick start all 16 games and become one of the best guards in the league. He had 29 consecutive starts with Washington before moving on to the Buffalo Bills in March 2007. Derrick played three seasons with the Bills before returning to Washington in the spring of 2009. He finished his brilliant NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys.
Derrick and his wife, Emma, have three children: Madison, 7, Makenzie, 6, and DJ, 4. Derrick is the Communications and Coalitions Coordinator for the House of Representatives Oversight and Government reform Committee. He and his family live in Ashburn, VA.
