Ike Diogu was an athletic powerhouse during his days at Garland High School. The 2002 graduate was a basketball star who was also active in many organizations on campus. He was part of a District Championship team and named district MVP. Ike received the Sportsman of the Year Award and the Global Achievement Award in 2001. Following his senior season, Ike was selected to play for the 2002 Nike All-Star Basketball team and earned MVP of the North honors.
Born in Dallas County, Derrick is a 1999 Lakeview High School graduate with a very impressive football career. He was a tremendous athlete and well-respected among his classmates. As offensive tackle he was a two-time first-team All-District selection. After his senior season, he was tabbed a second-team Class 5A All-State selection by the Texas Sports Writers Association. He was also named an All-USA second-team offensive lineman by USA Today. He received numerous scholarship offers ultimately deciding to play for Mack Brown at the University of Texas.
Everyone knew that Matt Fodge was going to be a great kicker at an early age. Wh8le he was playing for Austin Academy for Excellence, Matt kicked a 48-yard field goal to beat Jackson Middle School. His kick is considered a GISD middle school football record, leading Matt to experience many more highlights during his athletic career.
Mike Gandy, a 1996 honors and Advanced Placement Garland High School graduate, was a two-sport athlete who excelled at football as well as track and field. Joining GISD as a second grader, Mike was an outstanding student who enjoyed being in the orchestra and playing select soccer until his freshman year.
