2008 & 2009 Rowlett High School Track Teams

In 2008, the Rowlett High School boy’s track and field team earned its place among athletic legends of Garland ISD by claiming the district’s first-ever state championship in track and field. A year later, that same group of athletes launched themselves into iconic status by successfully defending its crown and claiming back-to-back titles.

The history-making performances took place inside Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas at Austin campus. RHS showcased a solid relay team, shored up by two individuals whose Herculean efforts clinched the Eagles their crown.

In 2009, seniors Marquis Goodwin and Kyle Clemons both earned gold medals in their individual events while teaming up with classmates Hilbert Jackson and Carl Perryman to claim first place in the 4x100 meter relay.

Goodwin also posted individual gold in the long jump (26-4 3/4) and triple jump (50-53/4). He finished second in both the 100-meter dash (10.24) and 200-meter dash (21.24). The University of Texas signee amassed 41 points at the state meet, the most ever by an athlete above Class 2A.

Clemons earned his gold medal by clocking 46.35 seconds in the 400-meter dash. The performance marked a personal best in the event, improving on his 2008 showing, when he also earned first place.
